How it works / no cloud
A conversion engine, not an upload form.
filetity decodes every frame, composites each into a full picture, scales them all by the same factor and re-encodes the animation. Scaling is nearest-neighbour, so every output pixel is a real pixel from the source and the original palette still covers the result.

Straight answers
No accordion. Nothing hidden.
- Is it free?
- Yes, with no watermark and no page limit.
- Does it need an account?
- No. There is no account system.
- Is my file processed on my device?
- Yes. The file is read by your browser and never uploaded. There is no server to send it to.
- What formats are supported?
- Animated or still GIF in. GIF out at the size you choose, animation preserved.
- What are the limits?
- One GIF at a time. Scaling down only: enlarging a GIF is inventing detail that was never recorded.
- Does it work on mobile?
- Yes, on any modern mobile browser. Large files are limited by the memory the phone gives the browser.
- Does it work offline?
- Yes, once the page has loaded. The tool keeps working with no network connection.
- Does resizing break the animation?
- No. Every frame is scaled by the same factor and written back in the same order with the same delays, so the animation plays exactly as it did, only smaller.
- Can I make a GIF larger?
- No, and no tool can do it honestly. Enlarging cannot recover detail that was never stored; it can only guess. Scaling down is the operation that has a correct answer, so it is the only one offered.
- Why is the result sharp rather than smoothed?
- Because a GIF has at most 256 colours. Blending between pixels creates colours the palette cannot hold, which then get forced to the nearest available one and look worse than not blending at all. Taking the original pixels keeps text and pixel art legible.
