How do I convert an AVIF image to JPG?

Drop the .avif file onto filetity's AVIF to JPG converter and the image is decoded and re-encoded by your own browser, then saved straight back to your device. AVIF is a newer image format that plenty of older apps, editors and email clients still cannot open, which is the usual reason anyone needs to convert one. JPG is understood by essentially everything. The work runs on your machine, so the photo is never uploaded, there is no account and the result carries no watermark. JPG has no transparency, so a transparent background comes out filled. Convert to PNG instead when the image has one.

What formats are supported?
AVIF in. JPG out, one file per image, or a ZIP when you convert several.
What are the limits?
No image count limit. Transparent areas become white, because JPG has no alpha channel. An AVIF carrying an image sequence gives you its first frame only. Needs a browser from 2021 or later.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, on any modern mobile browser. Large files are limited by the memory the phone gives the browser.
Does it work offline?
Yes, after you have used it once. Your browser keeps what the tool needs, so it then works with no network connection.
Why does everything refuse my AVIF?
AVIF reached browsers years before it reached desktop editors, phones on old software and print counters. The file is fine; the program looking at it has not caught up. JPG is what those places have accepted for thirty years.
How much quality does this cost?
Some. Both formats are lossy, so this re-encodes a picture that was already approximated once, and the second pass costs a little more than the first. At a high setting it is hard to see. There is no way to avoid it, because the AVIF cannot be un-compressed first.
What happens to transparent areas?
They are filled with white. AVIF has a real alpha channel and JPG has none at all, so something must go behind the image. If the transparency matters, convert to PNG or WebP instead.
Will the JPG be bigger than the AVIF?
Often, yes. AVIF is the more modern compressor by a wide margin, so matching its quality in JPG usually takes more bytes. You are trading size for a file that opens everywhere.
Can I shrink the photo at the same time?
Yes. Choose Fit 2048px or a smaller step and the longest edge lands on that number, the other edge follows, and nothing is ever enlarged. Fit 1600px covers a full-width web image.
