## Capabilities

- Free: Yes, with no watermark and no page limit.
- Account required: No. There is no account system.
- Processed on device: Yes. The file is read by your browser and never uploaded. There is no server to send it to.
- Formats: DOCX in. PDF out, through your browser's Save as PDF. Headings, lists, tables, bold, italic, links and embedded images.
- Limits: The PDF arrives through the print dialog rather than as a direct download. The result is a clean document rather than a pixel copy of Word's layout: page breaks, headers, footers and columns come from the paper size you choose, not from the .docx. Older .doc files are refused by name rather than half-converted.
- Mobile: Yes, on any modern mobile browser. Large files are limited by the memory the phone gives the browser.
- Offline: Yes, after the first use. The converter is about 140 KB compressed and downloads once, then your browser keeps it.

## Questions

### Will the PDF look exactly like my Word document?

No, and any tool that promises it does is worth checking. This produces a clean, faithful document: your headings, lists, tables, emphasis, links and images all come across, laid out for the paper size you pick. What it does not reproduce is Word's exact pagination, its headers and footers, or multi-column page furniture. The trade is deliberate, and the next answer explains why it is the better one.

### Why not just take a picture of each page?

Because that is what most browser-based converters do, and it quietly costs you everything a PDF is for. Rendering the page to an image and pasting it into a PDF gives you something that looks right and contains no text at all: you cannot select a sentence, search for a word, copy a phone number, or read it with a screen reader, and the file is several times larger. Some tools do this while describing the result as preserving your document exactly. This page keeps the text as text.

### Why does a print dialog open instead of a file downloading?

Because your browser's print engine is doing the typesetting, and it is far better at it than anything this page could ship. Choose Save as PDF as the destination and you get the file. The alternative was to draw every word by hand into a PDF, which means bundling fonts and getting right-to-left and Indic scripts wrong.

### Can it convert a .doc file?

No. Despite the name, .doc is a completely different format from before 2007, and this page will say so rather than produce something broken. Open it in Word, Pages or LibreOffice and save it as .docx first.

### Is my document uploaded?

No. It is unpacked and converted in your browser and the print document is assembled in memory on your machine. A Word document is usually a contract, a CV or a report, which is exactly the kind of file that should not be handed to a stranger's server for processing.
