## Questions

### Why will nothing open my WebP file?

WebP is a web format. Browsers read it everywhere, but plenty of desktop software, older phones and print shops still do not. JPG is the format everything opens, which is why this conversion exists at all.

### What happens to an animated WebP?

Only the first frame survives. JPG has no concept of animation, so an animated WebP becomes a single still image. If you need the motion, keep the original.

### What happens to transparent areas?

They become white. JPG has no transparency channel at all, so something has to go behind the image, and white is the least surprising choice.

### Can I make the image smaller at the same time?

Yes. The size menu fits the longest edge inside 2048, 1600, 1024 or 640 pixels while it converts, keeping the proportions. An image already smaller than the number is left at its own size, because enlarging invents pixels.

### What does the size line under the result mean?

It compares the bytes in with the bytes out, as a percentage smaller or a multiple bigger. WebP usually packs tighter than JPG, so a WebP photo often comes back larger as a JPG. When that happens the tool says to keep the original if the size matters, which is the right call unless the file has to be a JPG.

### Which quality should I pick?

Balanced, at 85, unless you have a reason. Best is 95 and keeps fine texture at the cost of a larger file. Smallest is 60 and is fine for a thumbnail or a chat message.
