## Questions

### Does the video's resolution affect how long this takes?

Barely. The picture is skipped rather than decoded, so a 4K file and a 720p file of the same length take about the same time. What does matter is the length of the recording, because every second of sound has to be decoded and re-encoded.

### Will the MP3 sound worse than the video did?

A little, because the audio inside a video is already compressed and this compresses it again. The tool never asks for a higher bitrate than the source spent, so it will not inflate the file pretending to add quality back. If you want no loss at all, save as WAV, which stores the decoded audio exactly and is much larger.

### Can I get just part of the video's audio?

Not on this page, which converts the whole soundtrack. Save the MP3 here and then open the trimmer to cut it to the section you want, which keeps this page to one job and means the trim happens on a much smaller file.

### Is it legal to do this?

That depends entirely on the video, and nothing about doing it locally changes the answer. Your own recordings, lectures you were given, and anything licensed for reuse are fine. Extracting a commercial soundtrack you do not have rights to is not, wherever the conversion happens.

### Why is the file smaller than I expected?

Because almost all of a video file is picture. The soundtrack of a 500 MB video is usually somewhere between 3 and 10 MB, so seeing a small file is the tool working rather than something having gone missing. The player on the page lets you check the length and listen before you save it.
