# Reverse GIF

Reverse a GIF so it plays backwards. Every frame and every delay is kept in the opposite order, nothing is redrawn, and nothing is uploaded.

## Capabilities

- Free: Yes, with no watermark and no page limit.
- Account required: No. There is no account system.
- Processed on device: Yes. The file is read by your browser and never uploaded. There is no server to send it to.
- Formats: Animated GIF in. GIF out with the same frames in reverse order, animation preserved.
- Limits: One GIF at a time. A GIF whose frames stored only the changed patch is composited into full frames first, which can make the file larger than the original even though the frame count and timing are unchanged.
- Mobile: Yes, on any modern mobile browser. Large files are limited by the memory the phone gives the browser.
- Offline: Yes, after you have used it once. Your browser keeps what the tool needs, so it then works with no network connection.

## Questions

### Does reversing keep the timing?

Yes. Each frame keeps its own delay and the delays travel with the frames, so a slow section stays slow. It plays from the last frame to the first at the original pace.

### Why did the file get bigger?

Because the original may have stored only the part of each frame that changed, and reversing needs every frame as a full picture. The reversed GIF holds complete frames, which can cost more bytes than the incremental original even though nothing was added. Run it through Compress GIF afterwards if size matters.

### Can I make a boomerang, forwards then backwards?

Not on this page. This produces the reversed copy only. A boomerang is the original followed by its reverse, which needs a join step this tool does not do.

### Will the loop still repeat?

Yes. The loop count is read from the original and written back, so it repeats as it did, now playing backwards each time.

### Does it change the colours?

No. The pixels are the original pixels in a different order. The palette only gets re-fitted if compositing pushes a frame past 256 colours, and flipping the order cannot do that.

### Is the first frame of the result the last frame of the original?

Yes, exactly. Frame order is flipped end to end with nothing skipped, so what was the final frame becomes the opening one.
