## Capabilities

- Free: Yes, with no watermark and no page limit.
- Account required: No. There is no account system.
- Processed on device: Yes. The file is read by your browser and never uploaded. There is no server to send it to.
- Formats: Animated or still GIF in. GIF out at the size you choose, animation preserved.
- Limits: One GIF at a time. Scaling down only: enlarging a GIF is inventing detail that was never recorded.
- Mobile: Yes, on any modern mobile browser. Large files are limited by the memory the phone gives the browser.
- Offline: Yes, after you have used it once. Your browser keeps what the tool needs, so it then works with no network connection.

## Questions

### Does resizing break the animation?

No. Every frame is scaled by the same factor and written back in the same order with the same delays, so the animation plays exactly as it did, only smaller.

### Can I make a GIF larger?

No, and no tool can do it honestly. Enlarging cannot recover detail that was never stored; it can only guess. Scaling down is the operation that has a correct answer, so it is the only one offered.

### Why is the result sharp rather than smoothed?

Because a GIF has at most 256 colours. Blending between pixels creates colours the palette cannot hold, which then get forced to the nearest available one and look worse than not blending at all. Taking the original pixels keeps text and pixel art legible.

### Which sizes can I pick?

75, 50, 35 or 25 percent of the original, or leave it at full size. There is no free-typed width, because the same factor has to apply to every frame. The GIF's real dimensions and frame count are shown when you drop it, so you can see what each step gives.

### Can I drop frames here as well?

Not on this page. Frame dropping lives on Compress GIF, which also resizes. This page keeps every frame and every delay, so the animation is only smaller, never shorter.
