## Capabilities

- Free: Yes, with no watermark and no page limit.
- Account required: No. There is no account system.
- Processed on device: Yes. The file is read by your browser and never uploaded. There is no server to send it to.
- Formats: PDF with a text layer in. DOCX out, with paragraphs and page breaks.
- Limits: Text and page breaks only. Tables, columns, text boxes, images and fonts are not rebuilt. A scanned PDF has no text layer and is refused rather than converted into an empty document.
- Mobile: Yes, on any modern mobile browser. Large files are limited by the memory the phone gives the browser.
- Offline: Yes, after you have used it once. Your browser keeps what the tool needs, so it then works with no network connection.

## Questions

### Will my tables and layout come across?

No, and this is the part worth knowing before you start. A PDF does not store a table, a column or a paragraph. It stores characters with coordinates, and everything above that is inference. A converter that hands you tables has guessed at them, and it will be right on a simple invoice and wrong on anything else, in ways you find after you have edited around them. This gives you the words and the page breaks, which are the parts that can be recovered honestly.

### Why does it say my PDF has no text?

Then it is a scan: a photograph of a page, with no text layer at all. There is genuinely nothing to convert, and writing you an empty Word document would be worse than saying so. Run it through the OCR tool first, which reads the words off the picture, and convert the result.

### Why is my Word document plain?

Because fonts, sizes and colours live in the PDF's own graphics state rather than in the text, and carrying them across would mean rebuilding a layout out of guesses. You get clean, editable paragraphs to work with instead of a document that looks close and fights you when you change a line.

### Is my PDF uploaded?

No. It is read in your browser and the Word file is assembled in memory on your machine. The documents people most want to edit are contracts, statements and applications, which is exactly the category that should not be handed to a stranger's server.

### Does it open a password-protected PDF?

No. You are asked to remove the password first, and nothing is converted until you do. The Unlock PDF tool removes one you know.
