## Capabilities

- Free: Yes, with no watermark and no page limit.
- Account required: No. There is no account system.
- Processed on device: Yes. The file is read by your browser and never uploaded. There is no server to send it to.
- Formats: HEIC and HEIF in. JPG or PNG out, one file per photo, or a ZIP when you convert several.
- Limits: One photo per file. A HEIC can hold several images, such as a burst or a Live Photo still with its extras, and only the main photo is converted. No limit on how many files you convert.
- Mobile: Yes, on any modern mobile browser. Large files are limited by the memory the phone gives the browser.
- Offline: Yes, after the first conversion. The decoder is about 350 KB and downloads once, then your browser keeps it, so later visits work with no network connection.

## Questions

### Why will nothing on my computer open a HEIC file?

HEIC is what an iPhone saves photos as by default. Apple supports it everywhere; almost nothing else does. Windows asks you to buy a codec, most websites reject the upload, and Chrome shows nothing. The picture is fine, the container is just one most software never learned to read.

### Does converting lose quality?

A little, if you pick JPG, because JPG is lossy. At the default quality of 85 you would struggle to see it. Choose PNG if you want no further loss at all, though the file will be several times larger.

### What happens to Live Photos and depth data?

Only the main photo is converted. The short video attached to a Live Photo, the depth map used for Portrait mode, and any other extras stored alongside the picture are not carried into a JPG, because JPG has nowhere to put them. Keep the original if you need those.

### Are my photos uploaded?

No. The decoder runs in your browser, on your machine. The photo is read from your disk into the page and never sent anywhere. You can turn off your network after the page loads and it still works.

### How big is the decoder download?

347 KB over the wire, the loader and the WebAssembly together, measured against filetity.com on 2026-08-26. It is fetched the first time you use a HEIC page and cached by the browser after that. No other page on the site sends a byte of it.
