Convert a GIF to JPG in your browser. The first frame becomes a still image, transparent areas turn white, and nothing is uploaded.

## Capabilities

- Free: Yes, with no watermark and no page limit.
- Account required: No. There is no account system.
- Processed on device: Yes. The file is read by your browser and never uploaded. There is no server to send it to.
- Formats: GIF in. JPG out, one file per image, or a ZIP when you convert several.
- Limits: No image count limit. An animated GIF gives you its first frame only. Transparent areas become white, and a GIF holds at most 256 colours, so the JPG cannot show more than the GIF stored.
- Mobile: Yes, on any modern mobile browser. Large files are limited by the memory the phone gives the browser.
- Offline: Yes, after you have used it once. Your browser keeps what the tool needs, so it then works with no network connection.

## Questions

### Where did my animation go?

Into the first frame, and no further. JPG holds one image, so the browser hands over frame one and the rest is dropped. If you wanted the animation smaller rather than gone, compress the GIF and keep it a GIF.

### Why did the transparent parts turn white?

JPG has no transparency channel, so something has to sit behind the image, and white is the least surprising choice. A GIF's transparency is one fully clear colour rather than a soft edge, so the join can look hard. Convert to PNG or WebP if that matters.

### Will the JPG look better than the GIF?

No. A GIF holds at most 256 colours, and the ones it never stored cannot be invented by changing the format. JPG can hold millions, but it has nothing extra to put in them. What it can do is make the file smaller.

### Should this be a JPG at all?

For a photograph that ended up as a GIF, yes. For flat colour, text or a logo, JPG puts faint halos around the hard edges, and PNG is the better target.

### Can I convert a whole folder of GIFs?

Yes, together. Each becomes its own JPG and they download as one ZIP. The first frame of each is the one taken, still and animated alike.
