## Questions

### Does dropping a file here upload it?

No, and it does less than that: the file is not even opened. A browser gives a page the name and the type of a dropped file before anything reads its contents, and matching those two against what each tool accepts is the whole operation. You can watch the network tab while you drop one and see nothing leave.

### Why does it not just convert it for me?

Because "convert" means something different for every format, and a converter that guessed would be wrong most of the time. A PDF might need to become images, text or a Word file; a HEIC might need JPG or PNG. This narrows 140 tools down to the two or three that can open what you have and lets you pick the one that matches what you are actually doing.

### What if nothing matches my file?

You get told, rather than sent to a page that will fail. The formats nothing here reads are mostly the ones a browser has no decoder for: AVI, WMV, RAW camera files, older Office formats like .doc and .xls. Saving those as a modern equivalent once, in whatever made them, usually brings them within reach.

### Can I convert several files at once?

Once you are on a tool, yes: the image and audio pages take a whole batch and hand back a ZIP. This page routes a single file, because it is answering "what can I do with this", and that question has one answer per kind of file rather than one per file.
