# EPUB to PDF

Convert EPUB to PDF with the book's own fonts and images through your browser, or download a plain text-only PDF instead. The book is never uploaded.

## Capabilities

- Free: Yes, with no watermark and no page limit.
- Account required: No. There is no account system.
- Processed on device: Yes. The file is read by your browser and never uploaded. There is no server to send it to.
- Formats: EPUB in, without DRM. PDF out, through your browser's Save as PDF, or downloaded directly if you choose the plain text-only PDF.
- Limits: The PDF arrives through the print dialog rather than as a direct download, unless you pick the plain option, which sets the text in Times, drops the book's own fonts and styling, and cannot carry pictures that sit inside a chapter. DRM-protected books are refused. MOBI and AZW3 are not EPUB and are not supported.
- Mobile: Yes, on any modern mobile browser. Large files are limited by the memory the phone gives the browser.
- Offline: Yes. Nothing is downloaded to make this work, so it keeps working with no network connection once the page has loaded.

## Questions

### Why does a print dialog open instead of a file downloading?

Because your browser's print engine is doing the typesetting, and it is far better at it than anything this page could ship. It knows the book's own fonts, breaks pages properly, keeps headings with their text, and lays out right-to-left and Indic scripts correctly. Choose Save as PDF as the destination and you get the file. If you would rather not deal with a dialog, there is a link under the button that writes a plain PDF here and downloads it instead. That one sets everything in Times and drops the book's styling and any picture inside a chapter, which is the trade.

### Can it convert a book from Kindle, Kobo or Apple Books?

Only if the book has no DRM. Most shop-bought ebooks are locked to the store you bought them from, and filetity does not remove DRM and is not going to. The page tells you which scheme it found so you know where the book came from. Books from Project Gutenberg, StandardEbooks, most indie publishers and anything you made yourself are DRM-free and convert fine.

### Does it handle MOBI or AZW3?

No. Those are Amazon's formats, not EPUB, and this page only reads EPUB. Anything claiming to do all three in a browser is worth checking before you trust it.

### Will the pictures and fonts survive?

Through the print dialog, yes. Images, embedded fonts and the book's own stylesheets all come through, because the browser is rendering the real book rather than an approximation of it. The one exception is a publisher who obfuscated their fonts, in which case that font falls back to a serif. The plain downloaded PDF is the opposite trade: it keeps the cover, the text, italics, bold, headings, block quotes and the line breaks in poems, and drops the book's fonts, its styling and any picture inside a chapter.

### How do I stop the date and URL appearing on every page?

That is your browser adding them, not the book. In Chrome, untick Headers and footers in the print dialog's More settings. Safari and Firefox have the same option under a similar name. The plain downloaded PDF never has them, since no browser is involved in writing it.

### Where do the page breaks come from?

An EPUB has no pages. It reflows to whatever screen it is on, which is why an ebook has no fixed page count. The breaks come from the paper size you choose here, and each chapter starts on a fresh page.
