## Capabilities

- Free: Yes, with no watermark and no page limit.
- Account required: No. There is no account system.
- Processed on device: Yes. Chrome's built-in translator runs on this device and the page makes no request of its own. The one download is Chrome fetching its language pack from Google, once per language, and your text is not part of it.
- Formats: English text, typed or pasted, or a .txt, .md, .srt, .vtt or .csv file in. Telugu out, in Telugu script, in the same format.
- Limits: Chrome 138 or newer only; Firefox and Safari have no on-device translator and are refused with a message. Quality is good enough to understand a document and not to publish one unchecked: 16 of 20 test sentences were clean, 2 changed meaning. Plain text is translated a paragraph at a time, so a hard wrapped paragraph comes back as one line rather than in its original wrap.
- Mobile: Yes, on any modern mobile browser. Large files are limited by the memory the phone gives the browser.
- Offline: Yes, once Chrome has the language pack. The first use of a pair downloads it; after that the page translates with no network connection.

## Questions

### How well does it translate into Telugu?

It has not been read by a Telugu speaker here, so no number is claimed. What was measured is English to Hindi on the same on-device translator: 16 clean sentences in 20, with 2 that changed meaning. Assume Telugu is in the same region until somebody checks, and read the result before using it.

### Does the whole document go through at once?

Line by line, on this device. Each line is handed to Chrome's translator on its own, which is why a file keeps its line breaks and paragraph breaks exactly. The cost is that a sentence wrapped across two lines is translated as two pieces, so unwrap long paragraphs first if that matters.

### What does a Telugu .srt look like afterwards?

Identical in shape. The cue numbers and timing lines are copied through and only the spoken lines are Telugu. The saved file is the original name with -te before the extension, and it plays with the original timing.

### Why is there a download the first time?

Chrome fetches its English to Telugu pack from Google once and keeps it. The page shows the progress and says so, because it is the one moment anything crosses the network. Your text does not; after the pack is present the page works with the network off.
