## Capabilities

- Free: Yes, with no watermark and no page limit.
- Account required: No. There is no account system.
- Processed on device: Yes. The file is read by your browser and never uploaded. There is no server to send it to.
- Formats: JPG, PNG and WebP in. The crop comes back in the format it went in as: a JPG stays a JPG, a PNG stays a PNG, a WebP stays a WebP.
- Limits: One image at a time. Very large images are bounded by the memory your browser will give a canvas. The crop cannot be larger than the image.
- Mobile: Yes, on any modern mobile browser. Large files are limited by the memory the phone gives the browser.
- Offline: Yes, after you have used it once. Your browser keeps what the tool needs, so it then works with no network connection.

## Questions

### Can I crop to an exact size?

Yes. Drag the box roughly where you want it, then type the exact width and height in the boxes underneath. Those fields are also how you crop without a mouse.

### Does cropping reduce the quality?

Cropping a PNG does not: it stays lossless. Cropping a JPG re-encodes what is left, which costs a little, though at the quality used here you would struggle to see it. Nothing is scaled, so the pixels you keep are the pixels you had.

### How do I crop a square for a profile picture?

Choose Square above the image. The box then keeps a 1:1 shape however you drag it, so you can position it without watching the numbers.

### Is my photo uploaded to crop it?

No. The image is read from your disk into the page and cropped there. You can disconnect from the network after the page loads and it still works.

### Which aspect ratios are offered, and what is the smallest crop?

Free, Square, 4:3, 16:9 and 3:2. When a ratio is locked, dragging shrinks the longer side rather than growing the other, so the box never gets pushed off the picture. The smallest crop is 8 by 8 pixels; below that the handles cannot be grabbed. Typed numbers are rounded to whole pixels, so the file is the size the boxes say.
