## Capabilities

- Free: Yes, with no watermark and no page limit.
- Account required: No. There is no account system.
- Processed on device: Yes. The file is read by your browser and never uploaded. There is no server to send it to.
- Formats: JPG, PNG and WebP in. The same format out, so nothing else about the file changes.
- Limits: Radius from 1 to 40 pixels, applied to the whole image. There is no selective or partial blur here.
- Mobile: Yes, on any modern mobile browser. Large files are limited by the memory the phone gives the browser.
- Offline: Yes, after you have used it once. Your browser keeps what the tool needs, so it then works with no network connection.

## Questions

### Can I blur only part of the image, like a face?

Not on this page. It blurs the whole image evenly. To obscure one region, crop it out, blur it, and place it back in an editor, or use the pixelate tool, which is the more common choice for censoring.

### Is a blurred face safe to publish?

Treat it as a soft measure rather than a guarantee. A light blur can sometimes be partially reversed because the underlying detail is still present in a smeared form. For anything that genuinely matters, cover the area with a solid block instead.

### Is this a real Gaussian blur?

It is three box blur passes, which mathematically converges on a Gaussian and looks identical at these radii. The difference is invisible and it runs several times faster.

### Do the edges of the picture go dark?

No. At the border the blur reads the edge pixel again rather than reading black from outside the image, so the edge blurs against itself and the picture keeps its colour right up to the frame.

### What radius should I use?

The slider runs from 1 to 40 pixels and starts at 6, which softens a photo without hiding what is in it. Larger numbers hide more. The radius is in pixels of the image, so a large photo needs a larger number for the same look.
