## Questions

### Why will nothing on my computer open an AVIF?

AVIF is recent, and support arrived in browsers years before it arrived in desktop editors and older phones. The image is fine; the program looking at it has not caught up. PNG is the safest format to hand those programs.

### Will the PNG be much larger?

Yes, usually several times larger. AVIF is a modern lossy format and PNG is lossless, so it stores every pixel exactly. That is the trade you are making to get a file everything can open.

### Does this need a plugin or a codec download?

No. Your browser already decodes AVIF, so this page uses that. Nothing is downloaded to make it work and nothing is uploaded to a server.

### Is transparency preserved?

Yes. AVIF supports an alpha channel and so does PNG, so transparent areas come through unchanged.

### What happens to an AVIF that holds an image sequence?

You get a still of its first frame. AVIF is built on a video codec and can carry a sequence, PNG holds one image, and there is no frame handling in this path, so the rest is dropped. Rare, but it is not something the file will tell you afterwards.

### Can I convert several AVIF files together?

Yes. Drop them all; each becomes a PNG and they download as one ZIP.
